About the event

The global launch and learn event for the UN Innovation Toolkit, kindly supported by the Government of Spain, took place in Madrid on 21-22 November. Participants, representing entities and agencies from throughout the UN-system, worked to not only build capacity and insight into the Profiles, Modules and Tools available in the Toolkit, but also to define and develop methodologies for its sustainable uptake and use.

Through the contextualisation and learning that took place at the launch, participants identified how they, and by extrapolation, all users of the Toolkit itself, may be able to move beyond viewing innovation as a goal, and embrace a vision of innovation as a continued, cyclical, non-negotiable driver of transformation and change in any planning, process, or procedure they are engaged in.

The UNSSC also live-streamed select elements of the launch and learn event, as well as examining specific case studies highlighting innovative practice in the United Nations.

The link to all recordings will be coming soon!

In his own words, the Secretary-General encourages everyone to, “Be bold, be revolutionary….and disrupt…because without innovation, there is no way we can overcome the challenges of our times.”

No matter what the challenge or the newness of solutions that people are attempting to reach, the Toolkit is intended to help the UN stimulate and maintain innovation. Through conversations based on results from the Toolkit, we can take innovation at the UN to unprecedented levels. It’s a cultural shift in office mentality, but well worth the effort and outcome.
