The UN Innovation Toolkit: designed to advance the Secretary-General’s vision for innovation

Secretary-General António Guterres has encouraged UN staff to be revolutionary, to be bold, and to embrace innovation to meet the challenges of our times. In keeping with this vision, the UN Innovation Toolkit was entrusted to the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) for system-wide capacity building and innovation efforts.

Now the United Nations System Staff College and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will be holding the first-ever UN Innovation Toolkit mainstreaming virtual event taking place on Thursday, November 19th from 13:00 to 14:00 pm (GMT +1).

Titled  UNSSC live with IFAD on the UN Innovation Toolkit – How to foster innovation to meet the challenges of tomorrow, the  virtual event  brings together IFAD professionals who will share their experiences of contextualizing and mainstreaming the UN Innovation Toolkit, its diagnostic elements and the practical uses of the included Tools, in the form of a moderated panel interview. The one-hour event includes an informational session followed by a panel discussion and a live Q&A. All UN colleagues from across the system are invited for this solution-focused dialogue to advance innovative thinking and action.

Developed by the UN, for the UN, the UN Innovation Toolkit includes 21 tools; step-by-step directions; worksheets; case studies; and references as well as a 27-question diagnostic assessment which provides insights into the readiness of people to innovate, as well as pinpointing the strengths and weaknesses of one’s team, unit, or organization.

As the United Nations faces an increasing number of pressing issues, personnel are required to take a step back, and examine how we can do things differently, and do different things – regardless of scope, level, or location. Now  is the time to make innovative thinking the new normal.
