United Nations System Staff College, in collaboration with UN DESA, organized and delivered the 14th edition of the Orientation Programme for Junior Professional Officers. The course was delivered at the UN Campus in Turin (Italy) from 19 to 30 September to 2016. 30 recently-recruited JPOs from Italy (19 participants), Luxembourg (2 participants), Switzerland (3 participants) and the Netherlands (6 participants) took part in the two-week intensive training course.

Participants came from different professional backgrounds, ranging from development, humanitarian and human rights work with NGOs, National Development Agencies or the United Nations in headquarter as well as field locations across the world, to research and communication work in the private sector. Their educational background ranged from university degrees in international relations, development studies or law to backgrounds in anthropology, business and management.

Considering the diversity of the group, the Programme’s goal was to equip JPOs with a common package of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will be key to serving in the UN system. Here are two videos capturing the lessons learnt during the training programme.
