The  United Nations System Staff College, in collaboration with UNDESA, organised and delivered the 16th edition of the Orientation Programme for Junior Professional Officers. The programme took place at the UN Campus in Turin (Italy) from 17 to 29 September 2018. It was attended by 69 participants, based in 30 different duty stations across the UN System.

Participants were sponsored by five donor countries: Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and, for the first time since the inception of the programme – Belgium. The two week intensive training focused on building a wide range of transversal skills, such as leadership and conflict management, and knowledge-based ones, touching upon the current UN development reform, HDP nexus and real-life case studies based on the experiences of past JPOs. Participants also took part in a safety and security training organised in collaboration with the Italian Army which simulated situations in the field.

Nineteen trainers, speakers and facilitators, with different expertise areas and professional backgrounds came together to deliver a comprehensive and dynamic training. The main goal being raising awareness among participants about various situations they might encounter in their duty stations.
