Maryam Bigdeli
Maryam Bigdeli is a pharmacist with a PhD in Public Health. Prior to her nomination as WHO Representative to Morocco, she was a Health System Adviser at the Department of Health System Governance and Financing at WHO HQ in Geneva, where she worked on health systems governance. Between 2010 and 2015, she led the portfolio of work on access to medicines at the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research at WHO, advocating for a health system lens on medicines in LMICs and supporting activities ranging from priority setting, primary research projects, systematic reviews, and production of landmark publications.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Maryam has worked in low-income countries, including in WHO country offices in Cambodia and Lao PDR where she was a health financing adviser. Her field experience includes technical assistance to ministries on health financing systems and national health planning processes. She also has previous experience as a researcher in higher income settings, working with the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer and in the Health Economics Department of the School of Public Health at University of Brussels. She started her career with Medecins Sans Frontieres in Guinea where she managed a central medical store.
