Manuel Marques Pereira
Manuel Marques Pereira has served as Head of Division for Migration, Environments and Climate Change in IOM headquarters since August 2021
Prior to his current appointment, Manuel served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Emergency Coordinator of the Rohingya response for IOM in Bangladesh from 2018-2021. There he led the IOM team that provided humanitarian assistance to refugees and host communities but also supported the broader Disaster Management Systems discussions and coordination with partners and the government
Manuel’s previous postings with IOM include, National CCCM Cluster Coordinator in Iraq, supporting the overall coordination of CCCM interventions during the Mosul Operations in 2016, Regional Programme Manager on Capacity Building for Governments in six Southern Africa countries, Deputy Shelter Programme Manager in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan, and worked with Shelter and Early Recovery Programmes in Pakistan from 2010 to 2014.
Manuel is a Portuguese national and holds a master’s degree in Emergency Practice and Development from the Oxford Brookes University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Portuguese University. He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish and Tetum.
