This Training of Trainers programme certifies security personnel to conduct Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments (SSAFE) SSAFE trainings. It enables different UN Departments, Agencies, Funds and Programmes and Affiliated Organizations to build the human resources capacity to provide high-quality training their own staff in the Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments (SSAFE) standard curriculum, jointly developed by the Staff College and UNDSS. One day of the course is dedicated to a unique field exercise where participants experience realistic scenarios and simulations conducted in cooperation with the Italian Army.

The maximum number of participants per each course is 26.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will:

  • Be equipped to effectively deliver the standard SSAFE modules using adult learning techniques;
  • Form part of a pool of UN SSAFE trainers who are responsible for training UN staff and associated personnel in their countries and/or duty stations.

Course Methodology

The course uses adult learning methodologies and is highly interactive and participatory, building on experience from participants. A mixture of plenary sessions, group exercises, and presentations are interlinked throughout the five days.  A field day in which realistic scenarios and simulations are conducted in cooperation with the Taurinense Alpini Brigade (Italian Army) completes the programme.
